ENH Scholarship

The Flow Ministries, Inc. (FMI) scholarship is named after Evelyn Nixon Hinton (ENH): sister, wife, mother figure, and devoted educator from the Prince George's County (PGC) Maryland public school system. She graduated from Saint Augustine's College in Raleigh, North Carolina where she majored in Business Education. Evelyn began her teaching career at Bowie High School in 1972. She matriculated into the Master's Program at Howard University, earning her Masters in the early 80s; after which she accepted a counseling position at Largo High School. After working at Largo HS for many years, Evelyn transferred to Potomac High School where she continued her counseling career until her retirement in 2004. She lived with her husband Oscar Hinton in Prince George's County Maryland until her transition in 2009. She enjoyed counseling and dearly loved her students, whom she often called her children. Evelyn had a passion to stimulate young minds to seek knowledge, strive for excellence, and view education as the key to opening doors.

Annually, the ENH scholarship is awarded to female high school seniors from Prince George’s County, Maryland, and expanding in 2022 to Johnston County, North Carolina, to graduates with grade point averages between 2.3 and 3.0. Seventeen young women have received the award over the last fourteen years. Evelyn’s quest for learning and seeking knowledge lives on in the scholarship named in her honor. FMI is pleased to present this award as an outreach of its core mission, which includes: engaging and impacting the lives of young women through mentoring and scholarship.
